PicoCast is an app for iOS that allows you to broadcast audio from microphones, audio files, songs and playlists to a local network using Wifi-Aware! Wifi-Aware is different from your wifi connection in that it’s a wifi network that your device generates similar to the tech behind AirDrop. It also coexists with your connected network meaning you don’t need to disconnect from your wifi to use this or hunt for wifi devices with weird names.
This app was designed for hyper local audio broadcasts so that users can create experiences like silent-dance parties, in-person podcasts, traveling tour guides, as well as assistive options for crowded conferences where the hard of hearing could tune into a booths audio. I am sure there are more use cases out there and would love feedback on how you would use it.
This beta requires you to have 2 devices capable of Wifi-Aware. One to be the Broadcaster and the other to be the listener. This means multiple iPhones running iOS 26, or an iPhone and an iPad running iOS 26, or an iPhone running iOS 26 and an Apple Silicon Mac on Mac OS Tahoe, or some combo of these. The more the better! You will also need headphones, wired ones are more reliable, but if using AirPods tun off the bluetooth on your broadcasting device to prevent switchover.
