Making a USB-C Rechargeable 2CR5 Battery

2CR5 batteries are commonly used in film cameras from the early 90s and 00s. But have not been used in much of anything else since then. So these batteries have not received any of the modern benefits of the digital era. You can still buy them but they are quite expensive at ~$10 a piece!

but these batteries are just 2 CR123A batteries in a plastic enclosure. So if we can 3D print a holder for them we can recreate the battery for cheaper. I found this 3D model on Thingiverse and printed it on my Prusa mini printer.

To connect the batteries together and form an electrical connection we can use some thin metal or if we are being cheap we can use some aluminum foil!

My 3D print

Now we can get some rechargeable CR123A batteries from amazon that individually recharge via a USB-C port in the battery itself.

Then just install them!

Now with everything completed, we can give it a little test in my Pentax PZ-70. Fingers crossed!

Now I do not need to buy a $10 battery every time I want to shoot my Pentax PZ-70!
