Save Photos To Shared Drive From iPhone

I created a shared drive on my network on my Unraid Server that I have set up to display photos with Plex. I wanted an easy way to upload photos from my phone to the server, there is the ability from within the iOS Plex app to do so but it requires a monthly subscription to PlexPass.

That’s when I thought back to the Siri Shortcut app in iOS that allows you to script small actions in sequence, but could it actually do all the necessary steps?

Selecting and converting images is super easy using the same blocks that I used for the Blog Media Upload. The biggest problem is that there was no way to automatically select the shared drive folder. The best I could do was have the Save block ask the user where to save the images. Thankfully this defaults to the last place you saved documents! Apple only lets you automatically select iCloud folders…

The other step you will need to do is set up the remote connection to your server. This is actually really easy, as the Files App allows for remote connections.

Now you can trigger the shortcut and save the photos to the remote server shared drive. If you want Plex to interpret this folder as part of your photos library you need to configure it to look at the folder and update on change, so you can see photos once uploaded.
